White-Eyed Vireo

White-Eyed Vireo

The white-eyed vireo is a bird that is often heard, but seldom seen. By “pishing,” we enticed this white-eyed vireo to show itself.

Pishing is the art of imitating scolding and other bird calls in order to attract attention. Since birds lead fairly mundane lives, they are quite apt to join in the “fun” when another bird is raising a ruckus. When we create the fuss, other birds come in close to join in. And, even when they figure out the ruse and lose interest, they often still hang about close, like when we caught this guy chowing down on a berry.
